Brian Mandell

Brian Mandell teaches at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, where he is Senior Lecturer in Public Policy. He also directs the Kennedy School Negotiation Project (KSNP) at the school’s Center for Public Leadership. He is a faculty affiliate of the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School. His current work addresses the theory and practice of negotiation and conflict resolution with an emphasis on third party facilitation, mediation, and multi-stakeholder consensus building in negotiations. He chairs and teaches master workshops and executive education programs and through KSNP works to advance the development of theory, research, and practices to address political, organizational, and systemic challenges to conflict resolution.

An expert in experiential learning and in curriculum design and development, Mandell teaches graduate students, mid-career professionals, and top-level managers in business and government. His intensive two-week advanced level workshop in multiple stakeholder negotiation and conflict resolution has become a signature course at the school. In addition, the excellence of his teaching has been recognized by the Dean, students, and alumni.

He writes about international mediation, curriculum design, and conflict resolution, working toward a book on negotiation and policy design for policy managers. He consults with and trains senior managers domestically and internationally, working with clients in government, non-profits, and industry.
