Colin John McKenzie

Colin John McKenzie is the founder and current director of Conflict Management NZ along with his wife Tamuna. He is a certified mediator, trainer and consultant in conflict management with 20 years work experience. Since establishing CMNZ in 1997 he has had specific experience in public sector training and public policy disputes. He has been working with CMPartners on a leadership development program in Timor Leste. He has also worked in conflict management projects in SE Asia, Central Asia, Europe, Australia and Africa and is now working with several practitioners to build greater awareness of dispute resolution practices in NZ and the Asia Pacific region.
Colin spent eight years in North America where he completed a one year Specialisation in Negotiation and Dispute Resolution at the Harvard Program on Negotiation (Boston) and a three year masters degree (MES) in intercultural conflict resolution (York University, Toronto). In Boston Colin was a senior consultant with Conflict Management Group from 1993 to 1997 primarily teaching, training and mediating many natural resource disputes and conflicts involving Indigenous treaty claims in North America.
Prior to leaving New Zealand in 1990, Colin was working in environmental and intercultural conflict management. He gained his B.Sc. from Otago University (NZ) and a M.Sc. in Natural Resource Management from Canterbury University (NZ). He also had ten years experience working primarily in energy development, environmental policy, community impact assessment and conflict resolution. His experience also includes work on Maori Treaty claims in NZ.
